Featuring the best of the french underground pop artists : Holy Strays (Not Not Fun), Cankun (Not Not Fun, Synth series), Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier (Stunned, Aguirre) and the joint effort between stellar psych droner High Wolf (Not Not Fun) and the psych-diva Chicaloyoh in Voodoo Mount Sister.

"Our nextrelease -first vinyl release- will mark the launch of the first volume in aseries of splits, which answers to the beguiling name of Travel Expop Series.The idea behind this series is simple: With each new edition we will bring ahandful of experimental pop artists together with a label that we admire of thesame nationality, on a single vinyl.

So we beginwith France, in co-production with the label Ruralfaune. This firstvolume-collage will, to our delight, draw together Cankun’s groovy funk-pop,the hallucinatory drone merry-go-round music of Holy Strays, the luminous,poetic dabblings of Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier and the cosmic equatorialhypnosis sounds of Voodoo Mount Sister. Broken Mask is the duo of Robert Horton and Michael Shannon, from the Bay Area. This compilation of archival recordings from 1982 to 2009, follows the legendary archives series released few years back on Digitalis, Sloow Tapes, 23Productions and Jyrk.

Using a wide variety of homemade instruments, the disc covers a lot of territory for a vast result. The hidden melodies and the textured mystic rhythms build drones of an immensely stacked beauty.

Robert Horton bio (courtesy of Important)

Founded the Appliances, part of SF’s first wave of punk bands in 1979. Played at the inaugural mayoral ball for Jello Biafra. ISM also in 79 was one of the first SF noise bands playing a series of house shows. Robert formed Plateau Ensemble in 1983, a tribal noise drone group who played in the Bay Area until 1987 drawing members from the Jon Hassell Group, ROVA, KU KU KU, Glorious Din, Eternal Glands of Secretion, Gamelan Seka Jaya, etc. Through out the 80’s and 90’s Robert participated in the cassette revolution releasing tapes in Japan, Italy, Belgium, Britain, and the USA. During the mid 90s to 2004 Robert’s time was mostly in doing Anti- Racism Educational groups called the UNtraining. He continued to record but hoarded it all for himself. Lately the dam has broken with releases on Foxglove, JYRK, 267-lattajjaa, Celebrate Psi Phenomena, New American Folk Hero, Barl Fire, Spanish Magic and Outa.

Robert records under his own name, Egghatcher, and Future Ears. He is currently a member of Kyrgyz, Beautiful Friend, Infinite Article, Broken Mask, and the duo with Tom Carter.

Inez Lightfoot is homemade music from the mountaintop barrows and the deciduous forests and many spaces in-between. She uses nature-derived inspiration to conjure analog soundscapes ranging from fierce and uncanny to gentle and ritual.
